Showage - our new initiative!
BRITISH SHOWING presents a new initiative for the Winter 2024/25 season – ‘SHOWAGE’ – aimed at encouraging the improvement of ridden showing with a dressage-like competition based on different levels of a show-type performance.
We will aim to run this series throughout the winter, from November to March, depending on interest. This will provide the opportunity to validate progression in training from month to month. These are video-based classes and will be marked against set movements with written feedback and a mark sheet, similar to a standard dressage class. However, each ‘Showage’ test is specifically designed to reflect the movements required during a showing class, with different levels from in hand and ridden walk/trot tests to more complicated shows.
Turnout will not be taken into consideration, so this is perfect for progressing your showing-based training throughout the winter months!
Mark Sheets and placings will be emailed within 48 hours of the classes closing, and all rosettes will be posted by Royal Mail second class to the postal address submitted on your entry form.

ENTRIES
Entries can only be submitted online at www.britishshowing.com from 00:01 on the first day of the month to 23:59 on the last day of the month (GMT) for that month's show. Any entries received after this time will be automatically entered into the next month's show.
By entering online, you accept the Terms & Conditions of the show, as outlined on this website.
Please submit one entry per class for each combination. The same combination may enter more than one class (if applicable) at each show.
For all the classes, the tests and sample mark sheets will be available on the website.
For each class you enter, you have the opportunity to upload your video or a link to your video as you are making your entry using the online entry form upload box; alternatively you can send it to British Showing via Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger or email to support@britishshowing.com. Please make sure you include the class number you have entered and the Horse/Pony name so we can match it up to your entry.
You cannot re-use the same video(s) for another month's show.
By submitting your entry, you are agreeing that you have permission to use or share the video(s) and that they are copyright-free. We may wish to publish any winning entry on the website or use your entry for marketing purposes – if you do not wish for your video(s) to be used in this way for any reason then please email support@britishshowing.com.
Entries are not valid until payment has been received and the relevant video has been submitted.
HOW TO VIDEO YOUR TEST(S)
Test(s) should be performed in a marked out arena or area measuring 20m wide and 40m long, with ideally letters as per a standard dressage arena (A, K, E, H, C, M, B, F). If you don't have dressage letters, then any makers (cones, up-turned buckets etc) is absolutely fine. It helps to have some poles or planks to mark out the corners and also along the sides if possible.
Click here to see a diagram of the layout of a standard arena with all the required measurements.
Ideally the test should be video'd from behind the 'C' maker, so the judge can get a clear view down the centre line. Please ensure the horse/pony is fully visible at all times - you may need to zoom in towards the 'A' end.
Please start the video just before they enter at 'A' and do not cut off at the end of the video too quickly! It helps to make sure you have recorded the full halt at the end as this will ensure the judge can award you all the marks available.
If you are unsure at all, please message or email to ask any questions you may have!
RESULTS & PRIZES
Mark Sheets and placings will be emailed within 48 hours of the classes closing. Please check your spam/junk filters for any emails from support@britishshowing.com if you have not received your results.
For all classes with sufficient entries, rosettes will be awarded from 1st to 6th place. All rosettes will be posted by Royal Mail second class to the postal address submitted on your entry form.
Feedback and comments for the video Showage classes from the judges will be emailed to all entrants along with the mark sheets and placings. This feedback shall be constructive and helpful to competitors, with the aim of helping them understand their placing in the class and any areas the judge feels could be improved to help them get a better placing next time.
Please take this in the spirit with which it is intended and be honest with yourself about any feedback give to you by the judge, which will always aim to be constructive and fair. It is being given with the best of intentions and is something many competitors from all levels keep asking for, so hopefully this new format will provide the answer(s) for many of you!
The judge will not be liable for any comments shared and the judge's feedback should not be republished in any format. It is intended for your private use and information only.
